Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Northeastern Downs Providence, 6-1

BOSTON— With recent Hall of Fame inductees Kendall Coyne Schofield and the 1987-88 team in attendance, freshman Allie Lalonde potted two goals to lead the Northeastern women's hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Providence on Friday night at Matthews Arena.

Northeastern posted four of its six goals on special teams, with three power-play tallies and one shorthanded goal.

Five Huskies recorded multi-point games including Lalonde, junior Tory Mariano, senior Lily Yovetich, graduate student Megan Carter and junior Skylar Irving, while 12 total Huskies recorded a point. Eight of Northeastern's 18 points came from the defense.
  • A scoreless first period from both sides gave way to a three-goal second period. Providence started the scoring just 22 seconds into the frame with a goal from Lauren DeBlois to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Lalonde potted the equalizer at the 10:08 mark in the second. Lalonde's power-play tally was assisted by Yovetich and Mariano. Irving put Northeastern ahead, 2-1, with the eventual shorthanded game-winning tally at the 16:16 mark. Irving had helpers from Carter and fifth year Katy Knoll.
  • The Huskies erupted for four goals in the final frame to bring the final score to 6-1. Lalonde posted her second goal of the night just 29 seconds into the period.
  • Three Huskies then posted their first goals of the season in Mariano, sophomore Jules Constantinople and sophomore Alyssa Antonakis. Antonakis' tally also marked her first career goal.
  • Fifth year netminder Gwyneth Philips finished her day with 21 saves in her eighth victory of the season.
Northeastern will close out the two-game series at Providence on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m.
