BOSTON, Mass. — Sophomore forward
Justin Hryckowian tied the game late in the third but RV/#20 Northeastern couldn't hold on as they fell in overtime 4-3 to #14 UConn on Friday evening.
- Just 2:42 into the opening period, senior Jayden Struble fired a shot from the left circle that rebounded out into the slot for graduate student Liam Walsh who charged the net and finished his chance to put Northeastern up 1-0.
- The Huskies capitalized again, late in the first period, as UConn turned over the puck to senior Matt DeMelis who skated down the ice and created a tic-tac-toe with juniors Gunnarwolfe Fontaine and Sam Colangelo. A quick release from Colangelo extended Northeastern's lead to 2-0.
- UConn would go on to score the only goals in the second period tie the game, 2-2. UConn would kick off third period scoring to take a 3-2 lead.
- Off the faceoff win, the Huskies took control for a shot by senior Jeremie Bucheler that deflected off freshman Cam Lund for an open net goal by Hryckowian. The bury with 3:55 remaining in the game tied the game 3-3 and sent the evening into overtime.
- UConn was able to score in the final seconds of overtime for a 4-3 win.
- In 64:32 minutes of action, goaltender Devon Levi tallied 45 saves on the night.
- Freshman Hunter McDonald led the team with three blocks and Justin Hryckowian tallied 20 faceoff wins to lead both teams.
After picking up a point in tonight's contest, the Huskies will play Boston University in the opening round of the Beanpot on Monday, February 6 at TD Garden. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be played on NESN.
