Justin Hryckowian Named Captain for 2023-24 Season

BOSTON, Mass. – Forward Justin Hryckowian has been named captain for the 2023-24 men's hockey season, announced by Fernie Flaman Head Coach Jerry Keefe on Wednesday evening.

The Hobey Baker nominee, Hockey East Best Defensive Forward and Second Team All-Star, finished the season leading the Huskies in assists (21) and was second on the team in points (36) and goals (15).

"It is such a great honor to be named captain here at Northeastern," said Hryckowian. "I have been lucky to have two amazing captains during my time here with Jordan Harris and Aidan McDonough. I have learned so much from them and I am looking forward to starting this new chapter with this group."

The Île Bizard, Quebec native averaged a 1.02 points per game this season and finished tied for first in Hockey East scoring with 14 goals, while his 29 points tied for fourth with linemate Aidan McDonough. The incoming junior tallied 319 faceoff wins, the best mark in the league and in the NCAA (471), finished with a plus-19 rating, tied for the league-high, and tied for second with four game-winning goals

"We are excited for Justin to lead the group next season," said Keefe. "He is a special kid and player. Justin understands the expectation and the culture we are all about. He's determined to lead this program to the level we all expect and do it the right way every day on and off the ice."

This season, Hryckowian was named Hockey East Player of the Week (Nov. 7) and Player of the Month in November. Additionally, his 22 blocks on the year edged all Northeastern forwards. Hryckowian recorded ten multiple points nights in 35 games played, including a season-high four-point night against New Hampshire (3g, 1a), a three-point outing and eight two-point games.

In 62 career games, Hryckowian has 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists), while helping the Huskies claim the 2023 Beanpot title, a victory over UConn at the 2023 Frozen Fenway contest and to the program's first Hockey East Regular Season Championship at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.
