BOSTON— Looking to capture a ninth-straight CAA title, the Northeastern women's rowing team will head to Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. this Friday, May 12 for the CAA Championship. Racing will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with the third varsity eight and can be streamed live on FloSports.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- OH HEY, CAA!: Northeastern will be looking for a ninth-straight title at the CAA Championship this year. The Huskies have taken home the CAA title 11 times overall since 2009, all under head coach Joe Wilhelm. This marks the first year the championship will be held in New York at Fish Creek. The CAA field includes Delaware, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, Monmouth, UC San Diego, UConn and Villanova. The scoring races in the CAA Championship include the varsity four, second varsity eight and first varsity eight races. The winner of the CAA title will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship from May 26-28 in Pennsauken, N.J.
- 2022 CAA REWIND: In 2022, the Huskies captured their eighth-straight CAA title. Northeastern tied with Delaware with 38 points but won the tiebreaker after winning the first varsity eight race. Wilhelm earned CAA Coach of the Year honors for a conference-best ninth time. Additionally, Helaina Howe, Tess Miller, Charlotte Kershaw and Abbie Keane all earned All-CAA honors.
- LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies last competed at Eastern Sprints with four boats advancing to their respective grand finals. The first varsity eight earned CAA Boat of the Week honors after advancing to the Grand Final with a season-best time of 6:27:33 and then posted a time of 6:33.48 against five nationally ranked opponents.
