Women’s Hockey Announces 2023-24 Captains

BOSTON— Head coach Dave Flint of the Northeastern women's hockey team has announced the captains that will comprise the 2023-24 leadership group for the program. Megan Carter was named captain, while Katy Knoll, Abbey Marohn and Gwyneth Philips will serve as assistant captains.

"I'm very excited to announce our leadership group ahead of next season," remarked Flint. "It was very clear throughout the process who the team thought our captains should be. I'm confident this group will continue the strong tradition of great leaders within our program."

The group of four have been instrumental in leading Northeastern through a remarkable stretch on Huntington Avenue. That stretch has included three-straight trips to the Frozen Four, two Beanpot titles and four-straight Hockey East Championships.

"It is one of my greatest honors and privileges to be recognized by my teammates, coaches and support staff as a leader of our team alongside Katy Knoll, Gwyneth Philips and Abbey Marohn," remarked Carter. "I look back at the great leadership that has come through this program in Alina Mueller, Brooke Hobson, Paige Capistran, Brittany Bugalski, Kendall Coyne Schofield and more, and strive to carry on the culture that they have built over the years. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and couldn't be more proud to represent this amazing group."

Returning for a fifth-year, Carter wore an 'A' for the Huskies in 2022-23 and will don the 'C' moving forward. Hockey East's Best Defender, Carter set career-highs in goals (five), assists (17) and points (22) in 2022-23. The Milton, Ontario native made her national team debut in the Rivalry Series this past December.

The lone forward of the leadership group, Knoll is returning for a fifth-year and will wear a letter for the first time in her career next season. The Amherst, N.Y. native posted career-highs with 18 goals, 16 assists and 34 points last season. The Third Team Hockey East All-Star reached the 100-point milestone in 2022-23.

A rising senior, Marohn, will wear a letter for the first time in her Northeastern career during the 2023-24 season. Marohn earned Third Team Hockey East All-Star accolades last season and led all Huskies with 60 blocks. She set career-highs with two goals, 15 assists and 17 points in 2022-23.

The National Goaltender of the Year, Philips is returning for a fifth-year and will don a letter for the first time next season. Philips led the nation with 34 wins, .87 GAA and .960 save percentage. The First Team All-American and Hockey East Goaltender of the Year allowed just 33 goals in 38 games played last season.
