Vold, Brown Tally Goals In 2-1 Win Over Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Northeastern University rookie midfielder Thomas Vold notched his first career goal, that would end up serving as the game winner, as the Huskies (2-1-1) defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats (1-1-1) by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium.

Vold's goal came just three minutes after the opening goal by Fraser Brown, his third in as many games, to give the Huskies a quick 2-0 lead just 13 minutes into the second half. After a QU penalty, the Northeastern defense held strong for the win.

  • The Huskies had the majority of the scoring chances in the first half, leading in shots 7-4 after 45 minutes, 1-0 in shots on goal. Federico Tellez had two shots that almost fell for the opening, but instead rung off the crossbar.
  • Northeastern opened the scoring in the 60th minute on a good run into the box by Kevin Ogudugu – his cross was deflected off several players and it fell to the feet of Fraser Brown who settled it and took the shot from inside the box.
  • The Huskies quickly doubled the lead in the 63rd minute after a Federico Tellez free kick from 20 yards out was saved, but the rebound fell to a charging Thomas Vold for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats got a goal back in the 76th minute as they converted a penalty kick.
  • Despite late pressure from the Bobcats, Northeastern held Quinnipiac to no shots on goal in the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
  • It's the second win in a row for the Huskies and the second straight game where they've handed a team their first loss of the season.
  • Brown becomes the team's current goals leader (3) and points leader (6).
  • Northeastern has now scored seven goals in the second half this season – they have eight total goals on the year.

The Huskies return home this Saturday, September 9 for a CAA match up with College of Charleston – kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on FloFC.
