BOSTON — In a tough 60-minute battle, the Northeastern Huskies fell short, 2-1, to the No. 12 UMass Minutemen on Saturday evening.
- The first period started as a scoreless affair until UMass took a 1-0 lead with 4:31 left to play.
- Graduate student Brett Edwards potted the Huskies' first goal with just under four minutes to play in the second period. The game-tying goal marked Edward's second goal of the season with helpers from graduate student Pito Walton and freshman Dylan Hryckowian.
- With a tied game heading into the final frame, the Minutemen were able to skate away with a 2-1 victory from a late period goal.
- Freshman goaltender Cameron Whitehead posted 33 saves, while junior Justin Hryckowian led both teams with six shots and 21 faceoff wins.
Northeastern will gear up for a home-and-home series next weekend with the Merrimack College Warriors, starting at Matthews Arena on Fri., Jan. 26
