BOSTON, Mass. — On Saturday night, the No. 18/20 Northeastern men's hockey team kicked off the 2024-25 season with a 5-1 victory over Stonehill College at Matthews Arena.

• Despite the early 1-0 lead taken by the Skyhawks in the first period, the Huskies would go on to score five unanswered goals through the remainder of the contest.
• Less than a minute after Stonehill's go-ahead goal, senior Cristophe Tellier potted his first goal in the Husky sweater. Off a well-placed feed from behind the net from junior Jack Williams, Tellier deflected the puck into the net for a 1-1 game. Graduate student Jake Boltmann picked up his first point as a Husky with the secondary assist.
• Next on the board was junior Vinny Borgesi as he put NU up 2-1 to start the second period. Quick passing from junior Nick Rhéaume and freshman Jack Henry left Borgesi open in the slot for the goal. With the bury, Borgesi has now scored in every home opener for NU since his freshman season. Additionally, Rhéaume collected his first point as a Husky and Henry picked up his first NCAA point.
• To keep the ball rolling in the third period, Williams extended NU's lead to 3-1 off a net front bury. Sophomore Dylan Hryckowian and Boltmann tacked on the assists, giving Boltmann two helpers on the night.
• As the Huskies got hot, at the 5:48 mark in the final frame, senior Ryan McGuire buried his first goal in the Northeastern sweater. McGuire tucked one in with a quick fake to deke the Stonehill goaltender. Borgesi, with his second point of the night, and junior Jackson Dorrington collected the helpers on the goal.
• Leading his team to victory, the captain, Williams, nailed the head in the coffin as he scored his second of the night with under 13 minutes left to play. Hryckowian add his second assist of the night while Tellier picked up his second point with the helper.
• Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead starts off the season 1-0 as he saved 17 shots on net through all 60 minutes of action.
• Borgesi, along with sophomore Eli Sebastian and freshman Seth Constance, led NU with two blocks apiece, while Williams led both teams with 12 faceoff wins.

Next up for Northeastern is a weekend series at the University of Denver on Oct. 18-19. Game one will start at 9 p.m. ET, while Saturday's game will begin at 8 p.m. ET.
