PHILADELPHIA – A goal from
Jessie Hunt in the 41st minute proved to be the difference as the Northeastern women's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 victory on the road at Drexel on Sunday afternoon.
The win gives the Huskies three critical points in the CAA standings, catapulting Northeastern back into the playoff chase with three matches remaining in the regular season.
• Northeastern dictated play for most of the first half, outshooting the Dragons 13-5 (3-1 shots on goal before cashing in late with less than five minutes until halftime.
• That's when Hunt controlled the ball near the top of the box off a feed from
Faith Rosenblatt, taking on two defenders before crossing over and sending a shot into the top left corner for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
• Goalkeeper
Eliza Teplow and the Northeastern defense took control from there, keeping the Dragons at bay over the final 45 minutes despite nine second half corner opportunities for Drexel.
• Northeastern finished the afternoon with a 16-13 shots advantage (4-2 shots on goal). Drexel goalkeeper Joella Chase made three saves for the Dragons, while Teplow made two saves for the visitors to help the Huskies to their third clean sheet in the last four games.
The Huskies will be back in action next Sunday when Northeastern hosts Campbell. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Parsons Field.
