Lund Lifts Huskies Past Seawolves In Overtime

HANOVER, N.H. — Five skaters tallied two points as the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, 4-3, in overtime to take third at the 35th annual Ledyard Classic.
  • NU maintained much control of the game through the opening 20 minutes of action, leading UAA in shots, 11-5.
  • Just before the first period ended, the Seawolves would net the goal first of the night for a 1-0 lead.
  • Junior Vinny Borgesi buried his third goal of the year off a beautiful shot from the right dot to tie the game at 1-1. Junior Jackson Dorrington and senior Cristophe Tellier were credited the helpers on the equalizer.
  • The Seawolves would respond late in the period to go back up, 2-1.
  • The Huskies efforts were rewarded in the final two minutes of the middle frame with their second man advantage of the game. Borgesi, from the point, saw an opening for a shot that was tipped in by freshman Joe Connor for his third of the year. Borgesi and Tellier both picked up their second points of the evening with the assists.
  • The third period saw no change in score until under five minutes when the Seawolves went up 3-2.
  • As both teams sent a skater to the penalty box, Northeastern threw out an extra attacker for the final two minutes. Sophomore Dylan Hryckowian sent the game to overtime, with 1:10 remaining, as he deflected the puck into the net off a shot from junior Jack Williams.
  • The Huskies easily controlled the overtime period before finally burying the game-winning tally. The play began with Dorrington behind the NU redline for a feed ahead to Williams who quickly found Lund at the opposite blueline for a one-on-one breakaway and the game winner.
  • With 21 saves on the night, sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead collected his fifth win of the year, while freshman Quentin Sigurdson saw one save in his 3:16 of action.
  • At the conclusion of the event, defenseman Vinny Borgesi and goaltender Cameron Whitehead were named to the All-Tournament team as voted on by the media.
Northeastern is back on the road next weekend for a lone Saturday afternoon tilt (Jan. 4 | 4:00 p.m.) against Quinnipiac.
