Second Period Push Leads Northeastern To Sweep Over Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. — A two-goal game from captain Jack Williams led the Northeastern men's hockey team to a weekend sweep over the Vermont Catamounts.
  • While the defensive efforts of the Huskies were strong in the opening period, Vermont went up 1-0 at the 16:43 mark to open scoring.
  • For his second goal in as many games, junior Jack Williams tied the game at 1-1 with under five minutes in the middle frame. Senior Cristophe Tellier sent a beautiful backhand pass into the middle of the Huskies' offensive zone for Williams who beat two Vermont defensemen for a net front bury. Junior Joaquim Lemay, who started the rush, was also credited with an assist.
  • Just 56 seconds later, Northeastern would take a 2-1 lead thanks to junior Cam Lund. With a touch on the puck, junior Jackson Dorrington popped the puck loose for freshman Joe Connor along the boards. Connor feed the puck to Lund who walked easily up the ice and threaded two Catamount defensemen for his tenth goal of the season.
  • For the second straight game, Williams would net the game-winning goal as he put the Huskies ahead 3-1 late in the third period. As he intercepted the puck at center ice, Williams beat his man to the inside for a wrist shot and his second bury of the night.
  • UVM once again pulled their goaltender for the man advantage and scored to bring the game to 3-2 but were unable to find the tying tally.
  • With 20 saves in 60 minutes of play, sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead picked up his ninth win of the year.
  • Dorrington recorded a game-high three blocks while Lund and junior Nick Rhéaume tied for a game-high four shots.
Northeastern is back in action next Saturday, Jan. 25th on home ice against Merrimack College at 7:00 p.m.
