BOSTON— Despite sophomore
Allie Lalonde scoring her first goal of the season, the No. 15 Northeastern women's hockey team fell to the Providence College Friars, 3-2, on Saturday at Matthews Arena.
- Providence jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a game-opening goal at the 17:46 mark of the first period.
- Lalonde tied the game at 1-1 just under 30 seconds into the second period. Lalonde's tally came on the power-play and was her first of the season in just her sixth game after returning from injury. Her goal was assisted by freshman Tuva Kandell and senior Tory Mariano.
- The Friars put home two more goals in the second to bring the score to 3-1 headed into the final frame.
- Junior Jules Constantinople kept the Huskies' comeback bid alive with a goal at the 4:20 mark of the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. Constantinople's goal was assisted by senior Taze Thompson and junior Lily Brazis.Â
- Northeastern was unable to find the equalizer, even after pulling freshman netminder Lisa Jönsson. The game ended in the Friars favor, 3-2. Jönsson finished with 19 saves in net.
- Constantinople led all players with five blocks.
Northeastern next faces No. 14 Boston University for the Beanpot Championship on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in TD Garden.
