BOSTON – In the 72
nd iteration of the Dunkin' Men's Beanpot, the Northeastern Huskies were defeated by the No. 1 Boston College Eagles at TD Garden on Monday evening by a final score of 8-2.
- Boston College opened scoring just 46 seconds into the period, when the Eagles skated through the offensive zone and into the high slot, firing a wrist shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles tacked on another 14 minutes into the period with some sustained offensive zone pressure that resulted in a quick pass to the crease from behind the net that was quickly tipped in for the 2-0 lead.
- Northeastern responded just 30 seconds later with a shot from the blue line courtsey of junior Jackson Dorrington that was tipped in by freshman Ben Poitras under the glove of the BC netminder to put the Huskies on the board and to give Poitras his first collegiate tally.
- BC re-extended their lead to two goals with a wrister from the far side faceoff circle that went glove-side. The Eagles held a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.
- The second period opened similarly, with a goal just 35 seconds in from BC, with a wide open man on the back door tapping in a pass for the 4-1 lead.
- The Eagles added their fifth goal in the final three minutes of the second period on a slapshot from the faceoff circle, and their sixth goal 13:36 into the third period on an transition rush where the rebound found a BC stick just outside the crease.
- Northeastern had a last gasp 15:25 into the final frame, when sophomore Dylan Hryckowian picked off a BC player in his own defensive zone, skated down the far-side boards, and fired a wrist-shot that went stick-side, cutting the lead to 6-2.
- The Eagles answered right back just under a minute later with their seventh goal, and tacked on the final goal of the game in the last two minutes of play.
The Huskies will play in the third-place game against Harvard University next Monday, February 10
th at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
