Huskies Set For Eastern Sprints

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's rowing team is set to kick off postseason action at Eastern Sprints this Sunday, May 18 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass beginning at 8:00 a.m.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. LAST TIME OUT – Northeastern last raced on May 4 against No. 3 Dartmouth - in the day's marquee event, the First Varsity Eight, the Huskies came off the line with power and pace, gaining a 2–3 seat lead by 500 meters. Dartmouth responded by shifting into a consistent base rhythm that allowed them to inch ahead through the middle portion of the race. Northeastern continued to fight hard to stay in striking distance but ultimately crossed behind in a well-contested piece. The Second Varsity Eight got off to an impressive start, with the Huskies jumping out to a one-seat lead by the 500-meter mark. The Big Green slowly extended their margin through the middle thousand, but Northeastern executed a composed and aggressive sprint to the line, showing great composure in the final stretch. As the race progressed in the Third Varsity Eight, Dartmouth began to build momentum, establishing a strong base rhythm and inching out through the middle of the race. Northeastern responded with a push at the halfway mark but couldn't regain overlap, finishing strong against a well-executed piece from Dartmouth.
  2. SPRINTS REWIND – Last season, the first varsity, which reached the Grand Final following a protest after its morning heat, went stroke for stroke against the top crews in the region, finishing seventh with a time of 5:39.576 against the likes of Brown, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Syracuse. Northeastern's second varsity earned a spot in the Grand Final after battling Yale for the top spot in its heat, getting edged by the Bulldogs by 0.4 seconds. In the afternoon, it was Princeton that controlled the Grand Final, topping the field by three seconds with Northeastern taking sixth at 5:47.066. The Huskies' third and fourth varsity boats both reached the Petite Final, with the 3V clocking in at 5:49.628 just behind Syracuse in the afternoon final, while the 4V finished third in the Petite behind just Princeton and Harvard at 5:57.133.
  3. LOOKING AHEAD – The Huskies will close out their spring season at the IRA Championships at Cooper River in Camden, N.J. from Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 1.
