Northeastern Shines In NCAA Academic Progress Rate Report

BOSTON— Northeastern University student-athletes continue to excel academically and achieve at a level higher than their Division I peers, according to data released Tuesday by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Northeastern's 2023-24 overall APR was 990, six points above the national four-year average Academic Progress Rate of 984.

Each academic year, every Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and one point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term.

This is the fourth consecutive year of publicly reported APRs after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The APR included data from the 2019-20 academic year through the 2023-24 academic year.

Highlights from Northeastern's 2023-24 APR report include:

• Northeastern had seven teams (baseball, men's cross country, men's track & field, women's basketball, women's cross country, field hockey, women's hockey) earn a perfect APR score of 1000.

• Of the 15 Northeastern teams included in the APR report, 13 of them posted a four-year APR score at or above the national average for their respective sports (indoor and outdoor track and field combined).

• Three teams (baseball, women's cross country, field hockey) were honored with Public Recognition Awards, which go to teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport.

• Every Northeastern team had an APR score above 950.

• The multi-year APR rates for men's and women's basketball are both above the national average (men's basketball national average - 968; Northeastern – 984  |  women's basketball national average – 982; Northeastern – 1000).
