BOSTON – Northeastern University Athletics and Recreation announced on July 24 that it will move the varsity Esports program back to club sport status, effectively immediately.

"Like many universities and athletic departments across the country, we continue to navigate through an uncertain financial climate," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Madigan. "This was not a decision that was made lightly, and we are committed to supporting those impacted through this transition."

Esports competed as a club program prior to being elevated to a varsity program in April 2020.
