AMESBURY, Mass. — The Northeastern men's hockey team produced two Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team honorees, with freshmen
Giacomo Martino and
Jacob Mathieu both earning recognition as Hockey East released their preliminary postseason awards Wednesday.

One of six Huskies to surpass 20 points this season, Martino sits third on the team with 24 points off 13 goals and 11 assists. He leads Northeastern with seven power-play goals, ranking tenth nationally, while his five power-play goals and ten goals in Hockey East play tie for third and eighth in the conference, respectively. Among all Hockey East rookies in league play, his 18 points tie for third and his eight assists tie for sixth. Martino scored in his first collegiate game against Holy Cross and went on to tally game-winning goals in upsets over No. 11 UMass and against Stonehill. He also buried a power-play tally in three upsets this season against No. 11/10 and No. 13 Boston College and No. 7/6 Providence. The Toronto native is a three-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week honoree.

Like his fellow freshman honoree, Mathieu is also among the six Huskies to eclipse 20 points this season, ranking second on the team with 27 points on nine goals and 18 assists. His four power-play goals rank second on the team and his 47 blocked shots rank third, while he sits seventh in Hockey East with 203 faceoff wins. In conference play, his 17 points tie for fourth among all Hockey East rookies, his ten assists tie for fourth and his seven goals tie for fifth. Mathieu kicked off his collegiate career with a goal in his first game against Holy Cross, recorded the game-winning goal in an upset over No. 7/6 Providence and tallied seven multi-point outings on the season. He was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week following his efforts in helping Northeastern to a weekend split with No. 18/19 Boston University.
