TORONTO — Vinny Borgesi of the Northeastern men's hockey team has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, beginning with the 2026-27 National Hockey League season. Borgesi, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, wrapped up his senior season as team captain. During his time with NU, he helped claim back-to-back Beanpot Championships in 2023 and 2024 and was part of the Huskies' run to the 2025 Hockey East semifinals at TD Garden.
He finishes his collegiate career with 135 appearances for Northeastern, recording 16 goals and 64 assists for 80 points. The defenseman tallied four game-winning goals, three power-play tallies, 252 shots and 197 blocked shots.
In his senior campaign, Borgesi tallied 20 points on 15 assists and a career-matching five goals, leading all NU blueliners in each category. He also added a career- and team-high 75 blocks and finished his second consecutive season as the nation's leader in time on ice, averaging 27:11 minutes per game. In Hockey East conference play, he stands among the top five defensemen in five categories — tied for first in power-play goals (2), second in blocks (49) and tied for fourth in points (14), goals (3) and assists (11).
A five-time Hockey East award honoree and two-time Hockey East All-Academic Team honoree, Borgesi earned 2026 Hockey East Second Team All-Star honors while also being named a Walter Brown Award Semifinalist and Hobey Baker Award nominee. He also represented Northeastern on the U.S. Collegiate Selects at the 2025 Spengler Cup — where he was named team captain in the program's debut appearance.
Borgesi is yet another member of the Northeastern men's hockey program to sign an NHL contract, joining recent signees Jackson Dorrington '25 (New York Rangers), Cam Lund '25 (San Jose Sharks), Jack Williams '25 (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Cameron Whitehead '25 (Vegas Golden Knights).
