GOLD RIVER, Calif. – With perfect conditions on the final day of the IRA National Championships, the Northeastern men's rowing team closed out the 2026 season with all three eights boats competing in the B Final. Northeastern, which finished 11th as a team in the Ten Eyck points standings, saw the first varsity place ninth in the nation while the second varsity finished eighth in the country and the third varsity 12th.
After narrowly missing a spot in the A Final during Saturday's semifinal racing, the first varsity got out to a fast start to lead the field through the first 500-meters with Yale, Penn and Brown close behind. Northeastern maintained its position into the middle 1000 to lead Penn and Yale by nearly two seconds at the midway mark of the race before both crews narrowed the gap entering the final 500. There, it was the Quakers who made the strong move to overtake Northeastern, while Yale also edged the Huskies in the final strokes to send Northeastern to third in the final and ninth in the nation.
The Huskies also found themselves in a tight race in the B Final of the second varsity. Sitting in fifth place through the opening 500-meters, Northeastern turned it on to pass Cornell, Dartmouth and Penn in the second 500 to make it a three-boat race with Stanford and Yale for the top finishing spot. With Stanford clinging to the lead down the stretch, the margins became tighter and tighter with the finish line in sight as the Huskies passed the Bulldogs for second before Stanford survived by a bow ball to push Northeastern to second in the final and eighth in the nation (5:51.422).
The third varsity race saw Penn fly out of the start to take the early lead with Syracuse and Northeastern in pursuit just one third of a length back at the 500-meter mark. The Huskies, along with Dartmouth, would make a move in the second 500 to cut into the Quaker lead with Northeastern sitting in second place at the midway mark of the race. The Big Green, though, took off over the final 1000-meters to overtake the field as the Huskies fell off to finish sixth in the final and 12th in the nation at 5:58.004.
