NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.— A two-goal first half lifted the Northeastern women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at Merrimack on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Huskies improve to 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2017.
- Freshman Lauren Sutliffe earned a penalty kick for the Huskies and sophomore Ava Gialanella stepped up to the spot. Gialanella hammered home the eventual game-winner in the 10th minute to give NU an early 1-0 lead. Gialanella's goal was her second career goal and game-winner.
- Before the end of the first half, freshman Ella McGee headed in her first career goal to give Northeastern a 2-0 lead. McGee finished a cross from Sutliffe on the near post, beating Merrimack's keeper. The goal and assist marked career firsts for both McGee and Sutliffe, respectively.
- The Huskies kept a clean sheet in the second half to preserve the 2-0 victory. Senior goalkeeper Eliza Teplow finished with four saves in her second shutout of the year.
Northeastern will wrap up a three-game road stint at Rhode Island on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
