Former Northeastern women's hockey standout Hilary Witt '01 has been named to the coaching staff of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women's Hockey Team, as announced Monday by USA Hockey. Witt, who has been serving as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 U.S. Women's National Team Bring on the World Tour, will be making her first appearance as an assistant coach at the Olympics.

Witt will be joined on the coaching staff by head coach Katey Stone and assistants Bobby Jay and Robb Stauber.

"We're pleased to add Hilary, Bobby and Robb to our Olympic coaching staff and look forward to the continuity and experience they bring as we prepare our team for Sochi," said Reagan Carey, general manager of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team and director of women's hockey at USA Hockey.

"Hilary, Bobby, Robb and I have been working together for some time now and I have the utmost respect for their ability and perspective," added Stone. "I'm fully confident that we can collectively help guide this team to great success at the Olympics."

The current head scout of women's hockey at USA Hockey, Witt has been involved with the U.S. Women's National Team as a player and a coach for more than a decade. As a player, Witt competed on the National Team in 2001, before rejoining the organization in 2006 as an assistant coach. Witt helped direct Team USA to a pair of gold medals at the IIHF Women's World Championship (2011, 2013) and also helped the squad claim Four Nations Cup titles in 2011 and '12.

A native of Canton, Mass., Witt spent two seasons (2010-12) as an assistant coach at Northeastern, during which time the Huskies won 38 games and captured the 2012 Women's Beanpot title. Prior to NU, Witt coached for nine seasons at Yale University (2001-10), including eight years as the head coach of the women's hockey team. During her spell with the Bulldogs, Witt directed the team to 96 wins, the most of any coach in Yale women's hockey history, and led the squad to six straight ECAC playoff appearances.

One of the greatest players to ever don a Huskies jersey, Witt graduated from Northeastern as the program's all-time leading scorer with 208 points. Witt scored 113 goals in her college career (1996-00) and was a three-time candidate for the Patty Kazmaier Award, given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women's hockey. Witt helped the Huskies to Women's Beanpot titles in 1997 and '98 and was inducted into the Northeastern Hall of Fame in 2005. She graduated from NU in 2001 with a degree in communications.
