The Northeastern field hockey team now has a place to call its own. The Huskies celebrated the opening of the team's new Dedham Field facility in fall 2013.
"We are thrilled to officially open Dedham Field for our field hockey team," said Peter Roby, Northeastern director of athletics and recreation during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "We believe that this facility gives our team a true home field advantage that will allow Northeastern to continually compete with, and excel against, the nation's elite programs."
The state-of-the-art field, made of AstroTurf, gives the Huskies a permanent home. The facility also provides brand new locker rooms for the Huskies, their opponents and officials.
"This program, with a facility like this, it should grow even stronger," said head coach Cheryl Murtagh. "It's hard to describe what it feels like. Everything here is first class. We are in heaven right now as far as practices and what we can do here."
Dedham Field was made possible in part thanks to a $500,000 donation from an anonymous donor.
