Alumni, family and friends came out to Henderson Boathouse in the morning where they were able to reminisce, experience the new renovations and get their strokes back as they climbed back in the boats and headed down the Charles. During the event, a new empacher boat, “The Flying Congram” which was generously given by a group of alumni in honor of Coach Buzz Congram was officially christened. Coach Congram was in attendance for the great honor.
This evening portion encapsulated the last 50 years and celebrated your stories, your history and the foundation you’ve built for our program. Memorabilia from 1965 through present day was strewn around the cocktail hour area and photos from throughout the years looped on the videoboards and screens throughout the arena. After dinner, our alumni speakers, Larry Gluckman ’69, Jim Deitz ’72 and Jeff McLaughlin ’89, told stories from their time on Charles, the men that instructed them and the years spent and experiences with their teammates that shaped their lives. A video was shown that showcased the sport of rowing, the history of this program from its inception and the spirit of the Northeastern oarsmen.
It was a truly gratifying experience to witness the amount of alumni that chose to spend their day the history of this program and looking forward to the future of what lies ahead.
