The 2002 men’s hockey Most Valuable Player, Mike Ryan (Class of 2003) led his team in goals his final three collegiate seasons. He is tied for 34th place, alongside NU Hall of Famer William H. Seabury, for most points scored in Northeastern history with a total of 113 career points. Ryan also scored a whopping 63 goals during his time at Northeastern, 19th in Northeastern’s record book. During his junior year in 2001, he collected the Huskies Radio Award for most exciting player to watch. He was named captain of the team his senior season and noted as the Most Valuable Player. Ryan’s hard work, focus and dedication were not only evident on the ice but also within the classroom when the senior captain was selected into the Hockey East Academic High Honor Roll.
 
Ryan’s career did not stop there. After graduating Northeastern he went on to play professionally in the National Hockey League making his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres in 2006-07 and later went on to play in the Kontinental League (KHL) and the Finnish Elite League (Liiga). After playing 13 years of professional ice hockey, Ryan took his skills and knowledge of the game into coaching. Currently he is the assistant coach for the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL. Ryan was recently inducted into the hall of fame at his alma mater Boston College High School in 2016.
