Before Northeastern: Played the 2017-18 season in the USHL for Youngstown (33 games) and Cedar Rapids (23 games), finishing with 13 goals and seven assists … Started the season with Youngstown, recording 10 goals and four assists … All of his goals in Youngstown came on the power play, which was good for sixth in the USHL … Recorded point streaks of three games or more twice during the 2017-18 season … Played for the Islanders Hockey Club in 2016-17, helping the team to the USPHL Premier Championship and leading the league in goals (27) … Finished the season with 53 points (27 goals, 26 assists) in 40 games … Also played for Reading Memorial for three seasons.

Madigan on Thomson: "Matt is a gifted goal scorer with a real good shot and touch. He's scored at every level he's played at. His dad is a former college player who had a successful career at New Hampshire, and we're thrilled that Matt's going to join us and give us a little more size on the left side. He's about 6'1'', skates well up and down the wing and can score off the wing. He has a tremendous release and a shot, someone that we can look to in power play situations and someone whose game has evolved into more of a two-way game. He's a very hardworking kid and someone who wants to continue getting better, and we see him challenging for an offensive spot and being able to contribute offense for us during his time here at Northeastern."
