Aidan Byrne joined the Northeastern coaching staff in 2010 after serving as an assistant at Siena College for two seasons.

Since joining the coaching staff, Byrne has helped lead the Huskies to their first-ever CAA Championship in 2012, an appearance in the NCAA tournament for the first since in a decade, and the program’s first NSCAA national ranking.

The 2012 campaign was a season to remember for the Huskies as Northeastern set program records for most wins (14), fewest losses (three), longest unbeaten streak (12) and fewest goals allowed (16). Led by Third Team All-American Don Anding, the Huskies captured their first-ever CAA title and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

During the season, the Huskies remained unbeaten on Parsons Field for the second straight season, where they have not lost since Nov. 6, 2010. At the height of NU’s 12-match unbeaten streak, the Huskies cracked the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men’s National Poll for the first time ever, coming in at No. 25.

While at Siena, Byrne helped the team to its best two-year stretch in program history. In 2008, Siena won seven games in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and was seeded No. 2 in the MAAC Championship, the program's best MAAC finish since joining the conference in 1989.

Prior to Siena, Byrne was an assistant coach for eight seasons at Mount Ida College, where he helped the team to two North Atlantic Conference championships, in 2000 and 2005, and the school's first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2005. In addition, the Mustangs had two runner-up finishes at the NAC Championship in 2001 and 2003. Byrne got his coaching start as an assistant coach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology during the 1999 season.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Byrne came to the United States to play collegiate soccer at Mount Ida for two seasons from 1995-97 before transferring to the University of Rhode Island for his junior and senior years. As a member of the Mustangs, he was named to the All-New England first team in 1996 and was named first-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association and second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 1996. For his efforts, Byrne was inducted into the Mount Ida Hall of Fame.

As a member of the Rams, Byrne was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team and All-New England second team in 1998. He then played professionally for the Rhode Island Stingrays of the United Soccer League from 1999-2000.

Byrne owns and operates his own strength and conditioning business and is married to the former Jennifer Langheld, who lettered at Rhode Island in volleyball from 1995-98. They have a son, Kyle.
