Justin Kahle begins his third season as the associate head coach of the Northeastern men’s soccer team during 2018, having joined the Huskies’ coaching staff in February 2016. A former student-athlete and 2010 graduate at Providence, he arrived at NU after serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Holy Cross.
During his two years at Holy Cross, Kahle took the reigns of designing the program’s training schedule, customizing it to fit the team’s needs through periodization. As the Crusaders’ recruiting coordinator, Kahle demonstrated his capability of drawing in high-level recruits while upholding the program’s academic identity. With Kahle’s support, Holy Cross placed nine student-athletes on the 2015 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, two more than during the previous season.
When not on the pitch, Kahle played an instrumental role in scouting the Crusaders’ opponents. Together with head coach Marco Koolman, he helped prepare the squad for upcoming matches, often breaking down film during video analyses. Kahle also coordinated a variety of Holy Cross soccer camps and maintained a strong rapport with the program’s alumni.
Upon graduating from Providence, Kahle remained with his alma mater and transitioned into the role of the Friars’ director of soccer operations – a position he held for four seasons. From 2010 to 2013, he was a member of the Providence staff that guided the program to three appearances in the second round of the NCAA tournament (2010, 2011, 2013), in addition to two berths in the BIG EAST championship match (2010, 2013). While with the Friars, Kahle organized scouting materials for film reviews, highlighting opposing teams’ tactics during their weekly match preparation.
As a player, Kahle started 79 consecutive games at Providence between 2006 and 2009, also dedicating himself to the role of team captain. During his senior season, he was named to the 2009 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team as a defender, having helped the Friars’ back row shut out Connecticut during Providence’s run to the league title match. In the midfield, Kahle’s best offensive year came during 2008 when he registered seven points, scoring two goals on eight shots and notching three assists.
Kahle is well-rooted in developmental soccer, having head coached the Rhode Island Olympic Development Program (ODP) since 2013 and served as coach and academy co-director at Bayside FC since 2010. He currently head coaches the ODP’s Under-16 group and has implemented training programs for his U-16 and U-17 squads at Bayside FC. Kahle also helped lead the Bayside FC U-17 team to the 2013 Rhode Island State Cup championship.
