Northeastern alum Adam Carpenter starts his second season on head coach Sherman Hart’s staff after five seasons coaching at Newton North High School, where he was an assistant to Jim Blackburn, a multiple-time Massachusetts Coach of the Year and a member of the Mass. State Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Carpenter was one of the Huskies’ best triple jumpers. His collegiate-best leap of 50’9.25 ranks No. 2 on NU’s all-time indoor list, but his consistency was an even more important attribute. He bested 50’0 in seven of his final nine meets, including wins at the America East and New England indoor championships in 2000. Carpenter won three indoor and three outdoor America East titles in the triple jump and was three-time New England indoor champ.

Outdoors, Carpenter’s mark of 49’8.5 in the triple jump stands as fourth best in NU history. As team captain in 2000, Carpenter led Northeastern to the America East indoor title and a runner-up finish at the New England Championship.

Carpenter’s brothers, Jared and Jed, are both accomplished jumpers. Jared graduated from NU in 2002 and was America East champ in the long jump and triple jump and competed in the sprints, high jump and pentathlon. Jed was a standout triple jumper at Newton North and attended Virginia.

Carpenter majored in English at NU and also works as a teacher at Newton North. He resides in West Roxbury.
