Scott Phelps joined the Northeastern coaching staff in August 2017 as the men’s distance and middle distance coach.
Phelps is coming to Northeastern after spending the last five years at Dartmouth College, where he served as the event coach for the men’s and women’s middle distance.
Under Phelps, Dartmouth became one of the most dominant middle distance programs in the Ivy League winning 14 Ivy League individual and relay Championships. The middle distance runners set nine school records, saw 56 top-10 performances and five athletes earned NCAA All-American honors.
He also served as the assistant cross country coach. During Phelps’ time at Dartmouth, the men’s and women’s cross country teams advanced to the NCAA National Championship, and the women’s team won the Ivy League Championship in 2013 and 2014.
Prior to Dartmouth, Phelps was an assistant coach at the University of Texas for two years. While a member of the Longhorn staff, the cross country program reached the National Championship in consecutive seasons. Phelps also oversaw two All-Americans and All-Big 12 performers, while also helping to produce the nation’s top recruiting class in 2011.
Phelps is a 2010 graduate of the University of Illinois, where he was a four-year letterwinner in all three seasons of competition.
