Alex Canning enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Northeastern swimming and diving program. Canning has coached swimming on the South Shore for the last three years and currently is the head coach at the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club.

Canning specialized in breastroke as an undergraduate at Saint Michael's College and now is in graduate school at Wheelock College.
