Katie McCann enters her sixth season as the Northeastern swimming and diving program's associate head coach this 2016-17 season. She first joined NU in 2011 as an assistant coach and was promoted to her current position in Oct. 2013.

McCann has helped the team advance from eighth place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship to fifth place, as well as break more than 30 school records collectively. She also coached Cyprus national record holder and former Husky Anna Schegoleva '15 to the World Championships qualification and paralympian Kelley Bercherer to gold medal finishes in the 2008 London Games.

In 2015, McCann earned Swim Across America's (SAA) inaugural Betsy Bilodeau Award for her commitment to the fight against cancer after facing her own battle this past year. In addition, she helped the team raise $9,900 for cancer research during the SAA Rhode Island Open Water Swim last fall.

McCann came to Boston with a wealth of swimming experience at both the collegiate and national levels. The 2006 graduate of the University of Florida posted two top-20 finishes at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials. Her time of 2:16.77 in the 200IM placed 11th at the Trials while her time of 4:52.18 in the 400IM finished 17th.

At Florida, McCann was an accomplished swimmer for the Gators. She was selected to the All-SEC team in 2004 and 2005 while also earning All-American honors in those years. McCann helped lead the Gators to consecutive third-place finishes in the SEC in 2003-04 and 2004-05, as well as consecutive fourth-place finishes at the NCAA championship in those same years.

McCann was also the 2004 recipient of the Donald Gibb Award, which was given to the student-athlete who achieved above and beyond Florida team expectations.

McCann spent her freshman season at Boston College and was the most significant point contributor for the Eagles, earning 324.50 points in just one season. McCann was honored as the Swimmer of the Meet at the 2003 ECAC Championships after capturing first in the 200 IM. She was also awarded the BC MVP Eagle Award in 2003.

The 2001 graduate of Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Mass., was a four-time state champion in the 200 IM and named the Boston Globe MVP during the 2000 season, after qualifying for the 2000 Olympic Trials at age 16.
