Adrienne Martelli, an Olympic bronze medalist and world champion, joined the Northeastern women's rowing staff in 2016. She makes the transition to the coaching ranks full-time after spending the last six years as a member of the United States National Team.

"Adrienne has been a collegiate national champion, an Olympian and a world champion," head coach Joe Wilhelm said. "She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our staff, and will be a positive role model for our student-athletes."

Martelli was a member of the U.S. National Team from 2010 to 2016, earning a spot on the Olympic Team in 2012 and 2016, highlighted by a bronze medal at the 2012 Games in London in the quadruple sculls. She also took fifth at this year's Olympics in Rio in the quad after advancing through the repechage to earn a spot in the 'A' final. In addition, she captured gold at the 2015 World Championships (W4-), silver in both 2014 (W4-) and 2011 (W4x) and a bronze in 2010 (W4-).

"I'm very excited and honored to be joining the Northeastern coaching staff," Martelli said. "Both the coaches and student-athletes truly embrace the values of teamwork, determination, and academic excellence. I look forward to the upcoming year."

Martelli got her start in coaching with the Princeton National Rowing Association in 2014, working with the Mercer Juniors. There, she primarily worked with novice rowers to teach the basics of the sport and team building. The following spring, she moved up to work with the varsity crew including the four, lightweight eight and third varsity eight.

Martelli grew up in University Place, Washington and is a 2010 graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in biology-physiology. Initially a freshman walk-on to the rowing team, she helped the Huskies capture the NCAA championship in 2009. She was named a First Team All-American by the CRCA before being named a team captain in 2010.
