Nick Carpenito was hired as an assistant coach of the Northeastern women's hockey team in June 2014, before being promoted to the post of associate head coach of the program in July 2018. Carpenito will be entering his 12th year with the Huskies behind the bench during the 2025-26 season.
Carpenito has helped lead the Huskies to six-straight Hockey East titles, including the program's first title during the 2017-18 season. Additionally, he has been behind the bench for the program's first three Frozen Four appearances, the team’s first-ever national title game appearance in 2021 and four Beanpot titles in 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2025. In 2015-16, Carpenito helped the Huskies to their first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament, the Huskies have been to the national tournament six more times since their first NCAA berth.
Under Carpenito’s tutelage, 11 student-athletes have earned All-Hockey East honors. Additionally, 10 players haveearned Hockey East All-Rookie team recognition. He helped develop five-time Patty Kazmaier Top-10 Finalist, Alina Mueller, and 2015-16 Patty Kazmaier award winner Kendall Coyne Schofield.
Carpenito leads the power-play unit which tallied a nation-leading 45 goals during 2021-22, the best mark in the Hockey East era (2002) for the Huskies. During 2019-20, Northeastern’s offense fired on all cylinders posting 149 goals, the fourth-best mark in program history.
Before Northeastern, Carpenito served as an assistant coach at Union College for the 2013-14 season. During his time with the Dutchwomen, Carpenito oversaw the development and execution of practices and was heavily involved in recruiting, scouting, film study and travel coordination. Carpenito also contributed to the development of the special teams' units, including the Union power play, which ranked seventh in the nation (18.5%).
Prior to Union, Carpenito spent two years as a varsity assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Elmira College (Division III). In two years with the Soaring Eagles, the varsity team posted a 44-10-2 record, including a 29-5 mark in ECAC West play. Elmira won the 2013 Division III national championship with Carpenito behind the bench and had seven players named to the ECAC West All-Conference Team. With Carpenito's assistance, Elmira led all Division III teams in scoring defense (1.10 goals per game) and ranked second nationally on the penalty kill with a 92.7-percent success rate.
While at Elmira, Carpenito ran practices, assisted with recruiting, oversaw all aspects of strength and conditioning, coordinated travel and assisted with game planning and strategy.
A native of Acton, Massachusetts, Carpenito worked extensively with the Northeastern club hockey teams as an undergraduate student. Carpenito played for the NU men's club team from 2008-11 and simultaneously coached the women's club team, which won the 2011 ECWHL playoff championship and finished as the national runner up in Division I of the ACHA. Carpenito was named the ACHA Division I Coach of the Year in 2011, after previously being named a finalist for the award in 2009 and '10 as well.
Carpenito earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Northeastern in 2011, before getting his master's degree in general education from Elmira in 2013.
