Liz Johnson

Liz Johnson began her role as Executive Director of Student-Athlete Support Service in September 2023 bringing over 15 years of student-athlete academic and student-development experience to Huntington Ave. Johnson will oversee the implementation of academic support and guidance for all 19 DI varsity teams, 4 full-time staff and various support staff. She serves as the primary point of contact for Women’s Basketball and Esports.
 
An active member of the National Association of Academic & Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), Johnson serves as a subcommittee co-chair in the Student-Athlete Development & Well Being committee, was part of New Practitioner programming at the 2024 National Convention, contributed to the inaugural NACDA-N4A Student-Athlete Development White Paper, and has actively participated in the Mentor/Mentee program. In 2024, she was selected to participate in the Leader/Manager Track of the Steve McDonnell Professional Development Institute (PDI).
 
Johnson previously served as the Assistant AD for Dartmouth Peak Performance at Dartmouth College. In her role, she provided career and academic support to 1000+ student-athletes across 35 varsity teams. She was the primary academic advisor for 15 teams, including Football and Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey, and staff advisor for both the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Dartmouth Black Student-Athlete Alliance (DBSAA). Johnson also served as an Event Manager, providing game day assistance and oversight during home competitions throughout the year.
 
Prior to Dartmouth, Johnson spent 7 years at Penn State University, serving as the Director of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development and as an Academic Advisor. She provided support and resources to 800+ student-athletes across 31 teams overseeing career development, community service initiatives and served as an advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB), Penn State Black Student-Athletes Association (PSBSAA), and facilitator for the Athletic Director’s Leadership Institute. She also participated in the inaugural Sport Administrator Fellowship Program and worked alongside Michael Cross in support of the Nittany Lion Ice Hockey, Tennis and Rugby programs.
 
Before the move to State College, Johnson spent time at Idaho State University, Winthrop University, earning her masters, and St. Bonaventure University. Johnson earned a BA in History from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania where she was a four-year letter winner for the Warriors volleyball program. A proud DII alum, she still holds records assists per game single season (10.89) and career (10.01) and coached across club and High School volleyball for over 10 years.
