The women's soccer team shut out the Stony Brook Seawolves, 1-0, Friday night at Parsons Field. Junior midfielder Jackie Spellman scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes into the second half, while sophomore keeper Mariel Wilner had six saves.
Spellman, who received the ball off a tap by junior midfielder Filippa Petruccelli, scored at 55:09. The shot was taken 30 yards out and skipped in over Stony Brook's goalie, Cindy Bennett, who also recorded six saves.
Wilner made some crucial diving saves to hold off SBU. Freshman defender Laura Johnson and senior defender Andi Matthews played a major role in clearing out the ball in the back.
Sophomore forward Kristen Kowalik led the team with four shots.
The Huskies are now 10-4-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in America East play. NU hosts Albany at Parsons Field on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. The Husky seniors will be honored before the game.
