Northeastern's scoring troubles continued on Sunday as Drexel shutout the Huskies 1-0. It was the fourth time in six games that the team has been held scoreless. NU is now 3-7-1 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
Northeastern dominated the first 20 minutes of the game, but the Dragons capitalized on their very first opportunity when sophomore Katie Kane scored the game's lone goal. Kane took a cross from sophomore Aleka Yiantsos, and then blasted the ball into the upper right corner past Northeastern goalie Mariel Wilner.
While Northeastern had its opportunities, Drexel goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond seemed unstoppable. She made eight saves including five in the first half on her way to a school record fifth shutout of the season. The Huskies were often overwhelming as they out shot Drexel 21-7, but seemed unable to take advantage of their many chances.
Wilner made one save for Northeastern and is now 3-6-1 on the year. Drexel's scoring chances were rare, but in the end the team's single goal was the difference.
NU is back in action this Friday at George Mason. The game begins at 7 p.m. and will be the Huskies' fourth CAA game this season.
