The Northeastern women's soccer team lost its final match of the season on a Saturday 3-0 to James Madison at a snow-covered Parsons Field. The Dukes were led by senior Kim Argy, who scored all three of their goals. Northeastern struggled to put the ball on net, recording just one shot on goal despite 11 overall shots. The Huskies finish the season 6-12-1 overall and 3-8-0 in the conference, the teams lowest win total since head coach Ed Matz' first year in 1999.
Argy scored her first on a booming shot past NU goalkeeper Mariel Wilner in the 15th minute. Teri Maykoski was credited with the assist. It would be the only goal of the period as Northeastern headed to the locker room trailing by one goal.
The second half began quickly as the snow continued to fall. Argy's header floated over Wilner two minutes in and James Madison increased its lead to 2 goals. Emily Baskin's pass set up the score.
The final insurance goal came with just six minutes left in the game. Argy completed her hat trick off a cross from Kimmy Germain. Argy finishes the regular season with nine goals, which leads the team.
The Huskies had their chances but were unable to put shots on goal. Multiple opportunities were not converted as a result of a few inaccurate shots.
The game was part of the senior day celebration in which Tara McLarney, Filippa Petruccelli, Jessica Pfeifer, Jaclyn Spellman, and Mariel Wilner were honored for their illustrious Husky careers. Their four-year career includes 3 America East Tournament appearances and an overall record of 38 wins including and NU school record of 12 last season.
The team will return next season with hopes of improvement after its first season as a member of the CAA. NU will return multiple veterans and is excited about the potential of this year's freshman class after a full season under their belts. Freshman Caitlin Whelan, the team's leading scorer as well as junior Kristin Kowalik, the team's points leader will both be back in red and black next season.
