The women's soccer team got its first Colonial Athetic Association win of the season as the Huskies beat George Mason 3-0 Friday. NU outshot the 10-5 and the defense played strong allowing junior keeper Annie Petrofsky to make only two saves in the win.
Freshman midfielder Sophia Palmquist started the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute. Junior back Laura Johnson stepped up to midfield passing the ball to sophomore midfielder Hanna Olsson who fed the ball to Palmquist for the goal.
In the 31st minute redshirt freshman Liza Rebello scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by sophomore forward Jenna Lucchesi.
Lucchesi scored the Huskies lone second-half goal when she took a pass from Rebello and dribbled by three Patriot defenders for a goal in the 89th minute.
The Husky defense, led by Johnson, held their ground at midfield for much of the game allowing only to two shots on goal.
Northeastern is 5-2-1 with the win and will try to put another notch in the win column Sunday against Towson at Parsons Field at 1 p.m.
