The Huskies now have 15 points and move towards third place in the CAA with Sunday's 2-1 win over UNC Wilmington. Northeastern is 9-3-3 (4-1-3 CAA) on the season, as the Seahawks fall to 8-7-1 (4-3-1 CAA).
The Huskies took control early in Sunday's match, when freshman
Sandra Magnusdottir scored on a free kick in the sixth minute. It was her second goal in three games, and her eight points on the season tie her with
Veronica Napoli for third on the team in scoring.
The Seahawks did not take long to resond, as Megan Novak scored a minute and a half later. It was her fourth goal of the season.
The score remained tied until after the half. The Seahawks turned up their intensity in the later 45 minutes, recording 10 shots, including five on net, to Northeastern's two. All Northeastern would need was one though, as freshman Devin Petta scored her 11th goal of the season in the 59th minute on a feed from
Kristen Blake. It was Blake's first assist and fifth point in her breakout junior season. Petta's tally would prove to be the game winner, as
Stephanie Gordon went on to make a total of seven saves in the 2-1 final. Petta continues to lead the CAA and Northeastern in scoring with a 11-6-28 scoring line.
Now Northeastern enters the final stretch of the CAA regular season, hosting its final three games at home. James Madison will visit Parsons Field on Friday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
