Huskies roll past Army 77-45

Brittany Wilson led five Huskies in double figures as Northeastern cruised past Army 77-45 at Matthews Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies shot 49 percent from the floor while connecting on 45 percent of their three-point shots and held Army to 33.3 percent shooting for the game.

Northeastern kicked off the game on an 11-0 run in the first 4:58, hitting three baskets from beyond the arc in that frame. The Black Knights closed the gap to six points, but the Huskies erupted to go on a 22-0 run over 7:18 to close out the half giving Northeastern a 39-11 lead at halftime. Rachael Pecota led Northeastern with nine first half points and Kendra Walton finished the half with with eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range. The Huskies shot 53.6 percent for the half while the defense held Army to just 20 percent shooting from the floor.

Army used a 9-2 run to start the second half, cutting Northeastern's lead to 22 points. It was the closest Army would get as the Huskies pushed their way to a 30-point lead. Wilson scored seven points over 9:02 to take a 62-32 lead with 7:59 remaining. Northeastern made its mark at the free throw line as it connected on 15-of-18 shots in the second half, with Mia Mayberry connecting on all five attempts en route to a career-high seven points, all coming in the second half. With 2:55 remaining, Northeastern took its largest lead, 75-40 and closed out the game shooting 43.5 percent from the field. 

Army faired better in the second as it connected on 44.8 percent of its shots, but the Black Knights only went 4-of-11 from the foul line for the game and 4-of-12 from three for the game.

Wilson ended the game with a team-high 13 points while Pecota added 12 and Jamie Conroy had 11. Kim Carr and Walton each had 10 points as Northeastern improves to 3-2 on the season, its best start since the 2007-08 season.

Erin Anthony of Army led all scorers with her fourth double-double of the year, tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds. She was the only Black Knight to reach double figures.

Northeastern returns to action on Wednesday, December 2 for a basketball matinée taking on Massachusetts at Solomon Court at 12 p.m.
