Goals from Alyssa Wohlfeiler, Rachel Llanes and Lindsay Domaas helped the No. 8 Northeastern Huskies (14-5-2, 8-4-2-1 HEA) to a 3-1 win over Maine at Alfond Arena on Friday night. It was the Huskies' first win in Maine since December, 2006. Sophomore Florence Schelling earned her 10th victory in net, stopping 19 of 20 shots.

With the victory, the Huskies are now three points clear of Boston College for first place in the Hockey East standings. Northeastern's next opponent, New Hampshire, is four points back in third place, but has five conference games in hand.

After a scoreless first period, the Huskies went straight to the attack to open the middle frame. Off a feed from freshman Siena Falino, Wohlfeiler fired her 10th goal of the season past Maine netminder Brittany Ott just 37 ticks into the period. Ott, who blanked the Huskies on Nov. 15, had her shutout streak against NU snapped at 80:42 consecutive minutes. Sophomore Stephanie Gavronsky earned the secondary assist on the goal, her third assist in the last two games.

Llanes added to the Huskies' lead at 8:15 of the second with her third tally of the season. Freshman Brittany Esposito and senior Annie Hogan drew assists on what turned out to be the game winner-- Llanes' first in a Husky uniform. With the assist, Hogan now has two goals and five assists in her last four games, while Esposito has tallied four goals and two helpers in her past five outings.

The 2-0 Husky lead lasted until the 7:49 mark of the third period when Maine's Brittany Dougherty spoiled Schelling's bid for the shutout with her second goal of the year.

Domaas effectively iced the game five minutes later with her first collegiate goal at 12:53. Seniors Kasey Cedorchuk and Lindsay Berman drew the assists, their sixth and ninth of the season, respectively.

The Huskies outshot the Black Bears by a 29-20 margin and earned the victory in the season series with Maine for the first time since 2006-07. In addition, the Huskies won their 14th game in a season for the first time since the 2001-02 squad posted 27 victories en route to an ECAC Eastern finals appearance.

Northeastern returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at New Hampshire in a rematch of the Sun Life Frozen Fenway game.
