Huskies, Black Bears battle to scoreless draw

Box Score

ORONO, Maine –
Florence Schelling turned aside 19 shots for her second-straight shutout as the Huskies battled the Maine Black Bears to a 0-0 tie at Alfond Arena on Thursday night.

The junior netminder has made 53 saves in the last two games. The last time she had back-to-back shutouts was on Oct. 30-31, 2009 when she blanked Vermont twice.

Northeastern moves to 7-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in Hockey East. Brittany Ott made 36 saves to earn the shutout for Maine as the Black Bears move to 4-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in Hockey East.

The Huskies registered double-digit shot totals in each regulation period. Freshman forward Katie MacSorley recorded a team-high seven shots on goal.

MacSorley set up the Huskies' best scoring chance of the game when she wrapped around the net and sent the puck through the crease. Siena Falino redirected the pass towards goal, but Ott made the save to preserve the tie.

The last time a Husky goaltender recorded two-straight shutouts was when Leah Sulyma stonewalled Connecticut in the final two games of last season (Feb. 20-21). The first of those shutouts was also the last time the Huskies skated to a 0-0 draw in regulation.

The two teams will tangle again tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as part of a doubleheader. The Northeastern men's hockey team will be in Orono tomorrow to take on Maine at 7 p.m.
