Sonia St. Martin is no stranger to playing hockey at Matthews Arena. St. Martin was part of the Dawson College team that traveled to Northeastern for an exhibition game last season, notching her team's only goal of the contest on Sept. 26.
St. Martin, a 5'4 defenseman, played two seasons with Dawson. In 2008-09, she helped the Blues to an undefeated season and a league title. St. Martin also won a JWHL championship with Washington in 2009. Before her time at Dawson, St. Martin played three seasons with the Deux-Rives boys hockey club between 2003-07. She also captained the LSL Elites in 2005-06.
"She is consistent and a natural leader both on and off the ice,” assistant coach Linda Lundrigan said. “She also has a great work ethic and will be expected to contribute right away."
In addition to starring on the ice, St. Martin shined on the soccer pitch, playing three seasons with the AAA Lakers and one year with the AA Pierrefonds team. The midfielder won a league MVP in 2009.
A native of Pierrefonds, Quebec, St. Martin was an honor roll student at John Rennie High School. She will join the Huskies class of 2014 and plans to major in communications. She aspires to one day become a commentator.
