Claire Santostefano, a 5'3 forward from Wilmette, Ill., joins the Huskies following a two-year stint with the Chicago Mission.

Last year with the Mission, Santostefano skated in 82 games and tallied 78 points (43-35-78) along with 50 penalty minutes. In 2008-09, she recorded the Misson's longest point streak of the season.

Prior to joining the Mission, Santostefano served as captain of Team Illinois in 2007-08, leading the team with 80 points. Santostefano also participated in the USA Hockey development camp from 2006-09. She brings a winning tradition to Northeastern as well, as she is a five-time national championship medalist, most recently in 2010.

Santostefano attended New Trier High School and played several sports, including four years of varsity golf and three years of varsity softball. She was part of the Student Athlete Leadership Training (SALT) program in 2009.

"Claire is a natural goal scorer who possesses an excellent work ethic and positive attitude," assistant coach Linda Lundrigan said. "She comes from a winning program and knows what it takes to be successful. A former teammate of Casie Fields, Claire also has the ability to be a playmaker and should adjust well to the level of play."

While Santostefano excels when the water is frozen, when it's not, she enjoys water skiing, fishing and lifeguarding. She will enter the class of 2014 and plans to major in business.
