Huskies edged by No. 8 BC, 2-1

Box Score

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. –
Freshman forward Katie MacSorley tallied her 12th goal of the season, but two unanswered goals from Kelli Stack propelled No. 8 Boston College past Northeastern, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.

MacSorley extended her point streak to three games (1-2-3) while sophomore forward Rachel Llanes now has a two-game point streak (0-2-2) thanks to her helper on MacSorley's strike. Llanes has factored in each of the three goals Northeastern (14-9-4, 6-7-3 Hockey East) scored this season against BC (16-5-4, 10-3-2 Hockey East).

Senior Leah Sulyma made 22 saves while her counterpart Molly Schaus stopped 26 Husky shots. It's the first loss of the season for Sulyma (3-0-1).

MacSorley struck first for Northeastern at the 1:37 mark of the second period when Llanes streaked into the offense zone and slid a pass to MacSorley, who beat Schaus for the 1-0 lead.

Stack responded for the Eagles at the 10:13 mark of the second stanza when she beat Sulyma for her 27th goal of the season. Danielle Welch was credited with the assist.

Northeastern went on the power play after Caitlin Walsh was sent to the penalty box for cross-checking at the 11:15 mark of the second period. The Eagles, however, capitalized when Stack scored a shorthanded goal with five seconds left on the minor. It's the first shorthanded goal the Huskies have allowed all season, and the first since February 27, 2010.

The Huskies had their chances in the third period, but Schaus turned aside all nine shots that came her way. Head coach Dave Flint elected to pull Sulyma with 1:00 left in the game, but the Huskies were unable to even the score.

Northeastern will have a week off before returning to the ice on Sunday, Feb. 6 when the Huskies hit the road to play Connecticut for the first time this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m.
