Redshirt sophomore Hannah O'Donnell (Dallas, Texas) scored twice, and the Northeastern women's soccer team won a crucial CAA match on Sunday afternoon, 2-0, over the George Mason Patriots.

With the win, Northeastern creeps closer to .500 on the year at 7-8, and now stands at 5-2 in conference play. The three-game winning streak for the Huskies is their longest of the season.

NU's four seniors: Sandra Magnusodttir, Megan Penn, Greta Samuelsdottir and Bianca Vecchiarello, were honored before the contest, their final home game at Parsons Field.

O'Donnell's two goals give her four on the year, placing her second on the squad behind Samuelsdottir's five. Sophomore Paige Burnett (Placentia, Calif.) made four saves for NU to record her career-high fifth shutout of the season. Lyndse Hokanson made two saves in the losing effort for George Mason.

Mason had the first chance of the contest in the seventh minute, when Amanda Stephenson served in a corner that led to a Casey Vornadore shot on net.

The Huskies then struck first in the 14th minute. Junior Hanna Terry (Park City, Utah) fired a shot that rung the crossbar and bounced straight down. O'Donnell was there to clean up the rebound and buried her third goal of the year. Terry's assist on the play was her team-high fifth of the season.

The teams battled through a steady rain the rest of the first half, with neither team able to generate another shot on goal, despite four corner kicks apiece. Northeastern led the half in overall shots, 4-2, and took its 1-0 lead into the break.

NU struck again early in the second frame. The Huskies earned a free kick in the 54th minute, which Magnusdottir lined up from 35 yards out. Sending in a picture perfect cross, O'Donnell beat a set of Mason defenders streaking into the box and headed in her second goal of the day. The serve in marked Magnusdottir's second assist of the season.

Mason had a chance in the 71st minute when Jazmin Cardoso sent a 30 yard free kick towards net, but Burnett leaped to snag the save. Redshirt sophomore Devin Griffin (Whitman, Mass.) nearly tacked on an insurance goal with a pair of looks in the 79th and 80th minute, but had open looks saved and blocked.

Penn and Vecchiarello subbed in to join Magnusdottir and Samuelsdottir on the pitch for the game's final minutes, as all four of NU's seniors closed out the senior day victory.

Sunday's win concludes NU's 2012 regular season home slate. The Huskies hit the road for their final three contests of the season, starting with a trip to Williamsburg, Va. for a CAA match-up with first place William & Mary. Kick-off on Friday, Oct. 19 is set for 7 p.m.
