MADISON, Conn. – The Northeastern men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up competition on Friday at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Hammonassett State Park in Madison, Conn. The NU men were led by
Stephen Sollowin for the second straight race, who placed 69th overall while
Danielle Klein led the women's squad in 165th.
The men finished 20th as a team in a field that saw Iona run away with the team title by 27 points. Columbia finished in second overall to claim the final automatic bid into the NCAA Championship next weekend.
Sollowin clocked in with a time of 31:52.50 in the 10k course, and was closely followed by freshman
Wesley Gallagher in 71st at 31:55.20. Following the one-two Husky combo was Zachery Fraeilli in 96th place with a time of 32:25.10, while Sebastian Putzyes (128th; 32:48.80) and
John Jantz (153rd; 33:15.30) also contributed to the Northeastern team finish.
On the women's side, BIG EAST powers Providence and Connecticut claimed the top two spots with 46 and 67 points, respectively.
Klein led all Husky women's competitors for the fifth time this season with a time of 23:08.10 in the 6k course. Northeastern, which finished 34th, was also paced by
Noelene Power with a time of 23:48.00 and
Jocelyn Hubbard (23:56.50).
Lauren Wardwell (24:09.40) and
Lauren Ward (24:18.90) also ran for the Huskies.
