Cross country closes season at NCAA Northeastern Regional

Men's Overal Results • Women's Overall Results

BOSTON –The Northeastern men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up competition on Friday at the NCAA Northeastern Regional at Van Cortland Park in Riverdale, N.Y. The NU men were once again led by sophomore Wesley Gallagher who walked away with a 24th place finish. Rookie Lucy Young crossed first for the Huskies in the women's field, finishing 29th overall.

"Both of the teams had a great race as many of the athletes had some of their best performances of their careers," said head coach Cathrine Erickson. "This group is really racing well and we are looking forward toward the indoor and outdoor track and field competitions."

The men's squad finished 15th as a team in a field that saw Syracuse post 57 points to run away with the team title and receive the first automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Columbia took the second automatic bid with 78 points and three top-10 finishes.

"The guys had some strong finishes from the group with Wes continuing to show how determined and talented he is. He ran a strong race staying with the front pack the entire time," said Erickson.

On the women's side, Providence and Dartmouth claimed the top two team crowns with 44 and 84 points, respectively, while the Huskies finished 20th as a team.

Gallagher completed the 10k with a mark of 30:46.5. Zachary Krause, who finished 62nd overall (31:43.0), was the next to clock in for the Huskies and was followed by Zachary Fraielli who crossed at the 32:00.09 mark (81st).

Charles Conway (127th; 32:38.2) and Stephen Sollowin (154th; 33:11.7) also contributed to the team's overall finish.

Young led the women's squad for the fourth straight race, finishing the 6k course among the top-3 freshmen with a time of 21:07.0. Northeastern was also paced by Jordan O'Dea (103rd) with a mark of 22:23.9 and Jocelyn Hubbard, who crossed 114th at 22:28.8. Danielle Klein (137th; 22:44.9) and Eryn Wheeler (187th; 23:39.5) also ran for the Huskies.

After Gallagher's strong performance, he will await the selection show, set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, for a possibility to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships as an at-large individual selection.
