BOSTON — Longtime rivals Northeastern University and Boston University will go head-to-head on the Charles River on Saturday morning in the annual rowing of the Arlett Cup. The morning's races are scheduled to begin at 7:30, with the varsity eight race slated for 8:42.

The Huskies, who stand at 3-0 on the young season, are ranked eighth in the latest USRowing men's varsity eight poll, while BU (0-1) is ranked 11th.

The crosstown rivals have competed at least once every year since 1966. Northeastern leads the all-time series, 42-12. Since 1978, the crews have competed for the Arlett Cup, named for the late Ernie Arlett, Northeastern's first men's rowing coach. The Huskies have won 27 of the 36 cup races, including 10 of the last 12.

NU swept the Terriers a season ago, including a win in the varsity eight race that returned the cup to Henderson Boathouse. The fastest time in series history was posted by Northeastern in 2005 (5:43.7).

On Saturday morning, the varsity four will open competition at 7:30. The third varsity will follow at 7:54, with the second varsity scheduled at 8:18, and the varsity eight at 8:42.
