McKenna Brand scored twice to help the Northeastern women's hockey team (6-6-3, 5-4-0 WHEA) earn a weekend sweep of Vermont (8-6-1, 1-4-0 WHEA) with a 5-1 win Sunday at Matthews Arena.

Hayley Scamurra also scored for the Huskies, who won their third straight game. Northeastern registered a season-high 46 shots on goal and scored on the power play for the fourth straight game.
Senior
Chloe Desjardins was strong in net, making a season-high 37 saves to earn her 47th career win. Desjardins needs just one more victory to tie Kelly Dyer for fourth place all-time at Northeastern in career wins.
Brand gave the Huskies a two-goal lead in the first period with a pair of pretty deflections. The first came on a power-play opportunity at the 8:25 mark of the frame. Junior
Kendall Coyne worked the puck back to
Jordan Krause at the top of the Vermont zone. The junior wound up and unleashed a hard shot that Brand tipped down inside the right post to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Then, less than three minutes later, Brand scored again off a Krause point-shot, this time from the left of the net in an even-strength situation, to double the lead at the 11:00 mark.
Northeastern bumped the advantage to 3-0 early in the second stanza on Haganey's first goal of the season. On an offensive-zone draw to the left of the UVM net, Coyne won the faceoff forward and fired a quick shot on net. Vermont netminder Molly Depew (41 saves) made the stop, but the rebound trickled right to the stick of Haganey, who made no mistake on the doorstep at the 5:44 mark.
Vermont cut into the deficit 1:14 into the third period when Dayna Colang stuffed home a loose puck in the crease. Desjardins did well to deny Colang's initial shot in close, but the puck trickled into space amidst a mass of bodies and Colang got to the spot first to jam the disc home.
The Huskies responded 2:18 later to bump the lead back to three at 4-1. Freshman
Ainsley MacMillan made an alert play in the defensive zone to throw the puck the length of the ice with Krizova charging hard into the UVM zone. The puck glanced off the boards behind the Catamounts' net and caromed right to the stick of Krizova, who made a nifty move in front to fool Depew at the 3:32 mark of the period.
Scamurra then extended her point-streak to five straight games with a snipe at 17:19. Sophomore

Lauren Kelly along the left boards. Kelly quickly passed the puck to redshirt junior
Lucie Povova, who touched it on to Scamurra in the neutral zone. Scamurra cut into the Vermont end with speed and unleashed a shot from the right circle that zoomed into the upper left corner of the net to make it 5-1 for the hosts.
The goal was Scamurra's fourth of the weekend and seventh of the year. The Williamsville, New York, native has six goals and eight points over her last five games.
Northeastern will take a break for Thanksgiving, before returning to the ice for a matchup against crosstown rival Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 29. Opening faceoff from Matthews Arena is set for 2 p.m.
